Rhabdotorrhinus waldeni
Conservation Status: Critically Endangered
Geographic Range: Endemic to Guimaras (absent), Negros, and Panay
One of our West Visayan Big Five species, they are considered to be functionally extinct on Negros, these are one of the most difficult birds to breed in captivity. The most recent successful fledging was in Negros Forest Park this 2019, with the last successful captive breeding having been in 2010. Talarak Foundation’s captive breeding centers are home to some of the last of their kind, making us their last stronghold for survival on Negros Island.
